Hey there, Creatives!
What if I told you the key to lifelong creativity isn’t about brilliance, inspiration, or a single genius idea? It’s in the mundane, repetitive routines that feel, well... boring. But here’s the thing, creativity is not assessed by how brilliant or smart you are, it grows quietly in the background, nurtured by small, consistent actions. It’s about the little steps that gets us there and not focusing just on the final creation. The real magic happens when you put your trust in the process.
In this post I am going to explore the value of not only building but sticking to a process. Having our trust in the routine and boring process is what allows us to get better and improve ourselves. This is the secret to exploring our creative potentials. But before that, let’s start by busting something called “the Boring Myth”.
We have this false belief that creativity is this magical thing that happens at some specific moments. This only happens when inspiration strikes or in those rare occasions. This is why this boring myth tricks us into believing that if we are not creating anything, we are just sitting idle and hence we are boring. But the truth is creativity lives in our daily and routine habits. It’s not about waiting for the one big breakthrough, its about nurturing creativity one small step at a time. Think of it like a plant, you don’t see it grow everyday but over time, the small actions you put in to maintain its growth, adds up.
When we become victims of this boring myth, we risk missing out on the real value of creativity which lies in the steady progress. The joy of refining ideas and the fulfilment that comes from building something over time. So let’s dive into why embracing these boring routines is one of the most powerful ways to stay creative in life.
Let’s get boring together and find our creativity.
One of the most overlooked aspects of creativity is in the power of taking small steps. We often get overwhelmed with this idea that progress needs to be big and if we don’t see ourselves growing then we are not being creative. But in reality it’s the consistency that matters, not speed. We don’t realize that the small steps, even though they seem invaluable in the moment, but these compound over time to bring our master vision to life.
Small steps lets us experiment, make mistakes and refine our ideas bit by bit. And when we look back at out process of going through these small and boring tasks, we realize that those weren’t just small tasks but infact were very important. Each one of those steps helped us push closer to our vision. So the next time you feel like you are not moving fast enough, remember that creativity is about showing up, taking those small steps and having your trust in the process. that will eventually unfold itself.
Speaking of experimentation…. you should start as many small experiments as you can. These experiments are like a discovery phase where you are constantly learning new things. Even though you would have this big idea of the thing that you want to create but try breaking that down into smaller tasks and little creative experiments. These small experiments gives us the freedom to play and have fun, make mistakes without the pressure of creating something perfect and every little step is an opportunity to learn that brings us closer to our masterpiece.
So instead of waiting and feeling anxious, thinking about not achieving your goals and feeling bored, start with one simple idea - something you can try today. You will find that even the smallest of experiments can prove to be very beneficial in the long run.
And finally the most important thing to do is to start embrace the messy process.
Creativity isn’t a linear path. The process is full of twists and turns, mistakes and things that you would never expect. But that’s the fun of creating. Those imperfect moments, mistakes and dead ends are often where the best ideas are born.
So when we let go of this need to be perfect, we open ourselves to new possibilities. Embracing the unknown and the imperfections helps us to focus on the present and learn from each mistake. So don’t worry if you are not seeing results right away. Every creator you admire have had their fair share of challenges and difficulties. What helped them overcome those problems is they kept at it, stayed consistent and seeing the imperfections as valuable steps in their creative process.
So there you have it, the secret to building a life full of creativity is to have your trust and faith in the process. Believe in the small steps you take, consider these steps as little creative experiments and finally embrace the messy and chaotic process. Again, these little steps might feel boring at the time but trust me overtime you will realize the importance of being consistent at it and doing it anyway. So let’s not sit idle but have fun in our creative journeys.
